The anticipation about The Game Awards was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
